Kharian is a city of Gujrat District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The city, the chief city of Kharian Tehsil, is located at 31°10'0N 73°16'60E [1] and lies almost midway between Lahore and Islamabad on the Grand Trunk Road (colloquially known as the GT road) crosses the city. This is the road which connects the city all the way to Bangladesh, India and Afghanistan, it was used during British Rule to transport goods across the South Asia. The main railway line also passes through Kharian thus providing good transportation to the northern and southern parts of Pakistan.

Since Kharian is located in the land fringed by the Jhelum and Chenab rivers, there is no shortage of irrigation water and the land is very fertile.
Kharian is a smallish town, there were two classes of its inhabitants; land owning class, (known as Gujjers or Zamindars or Chaudhary) and common people performing everyday professions (i.e. cobblers, hairdressers, carpenters, rajputs and other tradesmen) locally referred to as "kammees", a term derived from "workers".
